Gone are the days where management roles are monopolised by men......improved work-life balance now sees many more women assuming and succeeding in managerial roles, bringing with them skills and talents that only enhance the culture of any workplace.
It should of course never be about ‘gender’ but we are all well aware that historically this has simply not been the case. It appears now that more and more women are breaking down the barriers, bringing with them unique skill sets that society today needs and demands.
Young women working their way up the corporate ladder, maybe collecting a tertiary degree along the way...maybe not. Return to work mums recognizing and fulfilling their potential, demonstrating their flair (often buried and hidden amongst life’s demands) and quite simply bolstering their self esteem as they set their sights towards that supposedly elusive glass ceiling.
Many women bring bountiful assets with them – emotional intelligence, effective communication skills, sound strategic thinking, the ability to lead and mentor. “Don’t men have these assets as well I hear you cry?” Yes, they without doubt do BUT... ‘hey guess what’.. SO DO WOMEN, and any employer with a firm understanding of this is way ahead, ensuring that their businesses are being run by talented, inspired individuals regardless of whether they are in a suit or a skirt.
It remains true of course that the job should always go to the person best suited....male or female but it is also clear that as workplaces become more aware of the importance of offering a supportive, flexible environment, more women will put their hand up giving employers the opportunity to experience a truly ‘balanced’ workplace!
