Work History

Julie has been involved in the Swimming Industry for over 25 years and remains a shareholder in a number of the State Swim facilities in Adelaide, as well as a facility in Sydney and a Registered Training Organisation "Active Training" that specialises in the training of people within the Health and Fitness Industy.

Throughout her employment with State Swim, the largest swim school operator in South Australia, she has held various roles including Operations Manager, Training Manager, General Manager and in most recent years Chief Executive Officer. Julie was also a Company Director between the years of 1994 and 2008.

During this time, Julie has been a sought after, regular keynote speaker at both National and International Industry Conferences, sharing her knowledge and experience as a successful business woman in what was and still is predominantly a male dominated concern.

In 2009, Julie was a finalist in the Telstra Business Women's Awards.

Being involved in a business that grew substantially over the years, Julie has experienced every aspect of what it is to build and sustain a robust organisation. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge in areas such as building a thriving culture; the cultural change process, recruiting for talent, powerful leadership, effecting work/life balance and dealing with workplace bullying.

Having taken on the role of CEO, early in 2009, Julie initiated and drove a cultural change programme built around a dynamic three year strategic plan, with one of the key initiatives of this being the establishment of what became known as the 'Vitality for Life' program. The aim of this change process was to in one way or another have a positive impact upon every individual who came into contact with the organisation - including its 400-plus employees, the entire management team, its 10,000-plus customers, service providers and the community as a whole. In 2013, Julie was elected to the board of Recreation SA.
