I'll be honest it drives me crazy when I ask someone how they are and all I get is a blow by blow description of how little time they have, how much they have to do, what long hours they're keeping, how they can't keep up....like it's a badge of honour plastered firmly on their chest!!!
I'd also be telling untruths if I told you that I couldn't recall responding to someone's enquiry in the same fashion. But then a colleague sent me a Facebook post that simply said 'Stop The Glorification of Busy' and I thought 'yes'!!!
I made a conscious decision that day to limit my need to tell people how 'busy' I was, like I was justifying my existence in some way. Even though I may be a busy person, do I really need to tell people? What I then noticed was that even if I didn't respond with the 'busy, busy, busy' line, people would often encourage me to admit it....
"Hi how are you?"
"Really well thanks!"
"Have you been keeping busy?"
Ummmm, if I don't say 'yes' does that mean that something must be wrong, or that I'm lazy or that I simply should be busy coz that's what we all do...busy, busy, busy!!!
What I do know is that everything I do in my day is a choice....everything! So if by making these choices I end up without a minute to spare??

Gone are the days where management roles are monopolised by men......improved work-life balance now sees many more women assuming and succeeding in managerial roles, bringing with them skills and talents that only enhance the culture of any workplace.
It should of course never be about ‘gender’ but we are all well aware that historically this has simply not been the case. It appears now that more and more women are breaking down the barriers, bringing with them unique skill sets that society today needs and demands.
Young women working their way up the corporate ladder, maybe collecting a tertiary degree along the way...maybe not. Return to work mums recognizing and fulfilling their potential, demonstrating their flair (often buried and hidden amongst life’s demands) and quite simply bolstering their self esteem as they set their sights towards that supposedly elusive glass ceiling.
Many women bring bountiful assets with them – emotional intelligence, effective communication skills, sound strategic thinking, the ability to lead and mentor. “Don’t men have these assets as well I hear you cry?” Yes, they without doubt do BUT... ‘hey guess what’.. SO DO WOMEN, and any employer with a firm understanding of this is way ahead, ensuring that their businesses are being run by talented, inspired individuals regardless of whether they are in a suit or a skirt.
It remains true of course that the job should always go to the person best suited....male or female but it is also clear that as workplaces become more aware of the importance of offering a supportive, flexible environment, more women will put their hand up giving employers the opportunity to experience a truly ‘balanced’ workplace!

I read an article recently that suggested that 'defining goals defines your limitations'. It's fair to say that I couldn't disagree more!
I have always and will always be a goal setter. It's what drives me forward, keeps me focused and for me is far from self-limiting! I separate my goals into three categories – career, personal and training (my sport of choice...triathlon). I take one year at a time...things change too quickly for me to get too far ahead of myself.
I write them into a journal (specifically purchased for this very pursuit) and reference them regularly – add to them, tick them off and yes, scribble them out, thus allowing for the ebb and flow of life. For some reason writing them down ensures a greater level of commitment from me...maybe because I'm a list maker and love the satisfaction of ticking things off!
Here are three of my 2014 goals:
• Complete the Company Directors Course;
• Establish and launch my new business – Corporate Gold Presentations;
• Complete my second Half Ironman (Busselton)
How about you? It takes no more than 30 minutes of your time to begin your goal setting...and trust me, it's worth doing! Need a hand..let me know!

I'm excited about entering the world of blogging for the first time and so as a start here's what you can expect from me….honesty, strong opinion, directness and the desire to challenge others.
I hope to inspire passionate responses from readers. I hope that I rattle the reader's chain. I hope that many readers openly disagree and engage in debate with me. But most of all, I hope to grow through the whole process.
The frequency of my blogs will be completely and utterly driven by recognising a topic that drives me to blog. I hope that this will ensure that my blogs are fresh and relevant - time will tell!!
So watch this space..now that the introduction is out of the way, it's time to get serious and have a crack at putting down my inaugural blog (after all this one doesn't really count!)
